If there’s one word to describe the impact of women’s sports in 2024, it’s tremendous. 

Tremendous in viewership, tremendous in support, tremendous in progress. 

Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso broadened interest in the WNBA with their highly-anticipated rookie seasons. Ilona Maher stole the hearts of millions on the field and the dance floor. Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky dropped jaws at the Olympics — again. 

Bringing true meaning to the phrase, “everyone watches women’s sports”, 2024 was unparalleled — or unrivaled — in its impact. Now that it’s officially in the history books, take a look back at some of the moments that defined this record-shattering year. 

2024 Paris Olympics

The glass ceiling had no chance against the Paris Games. For the first time in history, the Summer Olympics and Paralympics reached full gender parity on the field of play, with 50% of the 10,500 international athletes being women.

The American women took it one step further, though, accounting for 57% of Team USA’s total medal count and winning 26 out of 40 gold medals. Below are some of the impressive solo athletes and teams.
