Simona Halep appeared to throw a subtle shade at WTA Players’ Council members and insinuate that Jessica Pegula, Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Garcia and some other players weren’t interested in helping her restore her ranking following a doping suspension.
After appealing to the CAS about the ITIA’s ruling and their four-year ban verdict, the former world No. 1 managed to clear her name and see her suspension reduced from four years to nine month – that allowed her to automatically return to action in March. However, most importantly, the two-time Grand Slam champion was able to prove that she 100 percent didn’t knowingly or intentionally take a banned substance as she was a victim of a contaminated supplement.
When Halep tested positive for Roxadustat in 2022 October, she was ranked at No. 9 in the world. When she made a comeback in the spring, she didn’t even have a ranking.
Since the 33-year-old was able to prove that she didn’t intend to dope, she thought it was fair to get her old ranking back. But it didn’t happen.
On Instagram, a fan account about Romanian tennis issued a post, claiming that Halep reached out to the WTA Players’ Council asking for help but they didn’t want to help.
