Should Indiana’s Mackenzie Holmes be a Player of the Year candidate?

There’s never a shortage of drama in women’s college basketball. From week to week, there are endless jaw-dropping performances, eye-popping wins and incredible upsets. This past week has been no exception, including Caitlin Clark and Iowa handing Ohio State its first loss of the season, UConn thriving despite an injury-riddle roster, Cameron Brink’s triple-double with 10 blocks (!) and Mackenzie Holmes’ efficiency for Indiana. There are plenty of topics to address.

So, let’s jump right in.

1. What went wrong for Ohio State?

After securing the No. 2 spot in the AP Top 25 last week, Ohio State ran into a Big Ten gauntlet when it faced Iowa and Indiana in subsequent games. The result? Two significant losses. The Buckeyes have been a fast-paced team all season — forcing turnovers, getting out in transition and scoring at a high clip. They also averaged 35.1 percent from 3. But against Iowa and Indiana, Ohio State shot only 16 and 20 percent from behind the arc, respectively.
