Bianca Andreescu was injured during the 4th round match at the Miami Open 2023, against Ekaterina Alexandrova, having to leave the court in a wheelchair and in tears. On the score of 2-0, she suffered a serious injury that froze Hard Rock Stadium.
The 22-year-old Canadian tennis player, winner of the US Open in 2019, returned from the right at 40-15 for her opponent, exchanged a couple of times and then as the ball returned to her, she suddenly landed on the court.
Coirt microphones captured the screams of the girl, who grabbed her left ankle with both hands. “I’ve never felt this kind of pain before,” screamed the former world No. 4 tennis player, as she writhed on the ground, and the chair umpire and Alexandrova approached her to make sure of her condition.
The ankle injury could be a simple sprain, but also a fracture or ligament involvement. After initial treatment on the court, the Canadian was forced to leave the Miami Grandstand in a wheelchair, but not before the her opponent embraced her.
