Sensational what happened in the women’s singles award ceremony at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, in Rome, with the champion Elena Rybakina, and her rival Anhelina Kalinina humiliated by the announcer, and not only. It all started with the on-the-court announcer of the awards, who, upon receiving a picture representing the WTA’s gratitude to the Italian Open, called the deputy CEO of the Italian Tennis and the winner of the tournament, Elena Rybakina.
However the announcer called Rybakina by the name of her opponent, Anhelina Kalinina! Much to Elena Rybakina’s embarrassment, who presented herself visibly bewildered. Later, the announcer on the awards court again made an embarrassing confusion: he called Anhelina Kalinina by the name of Elena Rybakina!
The two tennis players, at this point, were visibly banned during the speeches on court. Finally, there was even an error in the presentation of the two prizes, with the announcer and the staff swapping the prizes! The announcer also repeatedly stressed how sorry he was about Anhelina Kalinina’s injury, as well as repeatedly belittling Rybakina’s wins.
