Serena Williams’ ex-coach Rick Macci is backing “hard worker” Coco Gauff to continue her tennis rise. After establishing herself as one of the best players in the game last year, Gauff took it a step further this year and won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open.
Gauff, who is now ranked at No 3 in the world and the top-ranked player in American women’s tennis, made it perfectly clear after the US Open that she was hungry for far more success. Gauff, who will be celebrating her 20th birthday in March, is still very young and undoubtedly has room for improvement.
“But the one thing I love about Coco Gauff, she’s a worker, no days off, she’s going to get better. And let’s face it, the big ticket items in women’s tennis, mobility and firepower off the ground. So, I think Coco will keep getting better, but, as we know in life, so is everybody else.
And there’s new people on the block, and there’s new people coming in,” Macci told Tennis-Infinity.
