As first reported by the Daily Bruin, former number one recruit and 2024 regular season and NCAA All-American Selena Harris has been “dismissed” by UCLA. No further information has been released.
Rumors swirled about her future with the Bruins after their early exit form the postseason when they were upset by Arizona State and failed to advance to the Berkeley regional final. Harris advanced as an individual to the national championships, where she scored a 9.950 on beam.
Harris was understandably visibly upset when the Bruins failed to advance, and fans noticed her social media activity implied a dissatisfaction with the team.
The announcement of her dismissal comes on the final day that gymnasts are permitted to enter their names into the transfer portal. Harris has two years of eligibility remaining.
A regular all-arounder for the Bruins, her departure will leave holes on all four events—she led the team in NQS on all four pieces—and will open up a scholarship. The incoming class includes three four-star recruits in Cameron Richardson, Sasha Fujisaka, and Macy McGowan, plus the possible returns of Jordan Chiles and Ana Padurariu, who deferred the 2024 season to pursue the Paris Olympics.
