Scottie Scheffler baby watch: Why Masters leader could leave tournament to join pregnant wife

Scottie Scheffler may make history this weekend at Augusta National, but it might not be for wearing the green jacket.

After two rounds at the Masters, Scheffler is in a three-way tie for first place with Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa. But at any moment, the co-leader could withdraw from the tournament for a more important reason back home.

His wife, Meredith, is pregnant with their first child, with the baby due in April. Ahead of the Masters, Scheffler said he would withdraw if she was going into labor. The pledge came before he was tied for first place through two rounds, though the placement isn’t unexpected.

Scheffler entered the tournament as the world’s No. 1 golfer and after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship in March. He won the Masters in 2022.
