“I’m going full circle.”
That’s what Savy King said in one of her first interviews as a professional athlete, moments after being selected No. 2 overall, by Bay FC in the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League Draft. King, a freshman defender from the University of North Carolina, is originally from West Hills, Calif., making for a short six-hour drive to her new home.
“I am so excited. I’m excited to go to the Bay,” King said exclusively to The Equalizer. “I’m from California, so it’s nice to stay in California and be close to home. I love everything about the Bay. I love the coaches, the area, the amazing stadium we’re going to play in. I can’t wait.”
She’ll be playing for Albertin Montoya, who is returning to the NWSL to coach the expansion side. There, she’s set to join Caprice Dydasco, Kayla Sharples, Emily Menges and Alyssa Malonson on the defensive end.
