Highly-expected news has finally been officially confirmed as the WTA has inked a multiyear deal with Saudi Arabia that will see the WTA Finals take place in Riyadh.
On Thursday afternoon, the WTA made a big announcement, revealing that Riyadh has been selected as the host city for the WTA Finals through 2026. This year, the opening WTA Finals Riyadh edition will take place between November 02-09.
This decision doesn’t come as a surprise or anything like that as for months there had been strong rumors indicating that the WTA Finals going to Saudi Arabia was a done deal but that the WTA and the Saudis were just smoothing out some things before officially announcing the deal.
By agreeing on a deal with the Saudis, the 2024 WTA Finals edition will offer a record-breaking $15.25 million in tournament prize money. In the announcement, it was noted that it was just the beginning as even bigger prize money is expected at the WTA Finals in 2025 and 2026.
Also, the WTA said that this deal will also help the future development and growth of women’s tennis.
