On Saturday in Cancun, players dedicated their time to interviews and practice sessions in preparation for the tournament starting on Sunday, October 29th. Photographer Jimmie48 caught up with Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, and other tennis stars getting ready for the prestigious Tour event.
This is the 52nd staging of the WTA Finals (which began in 1972). This year marks the first time that the tournament is hosted in Cancun and second time being hosted in Mexico as the event was staged in Guadalajara in 2021.
The singles draw features eight players and begins as a round-robin format, with four players in each group. Over the first six days of competition, each player meets the other three players in her group, with the top two in each pool moving on to the semifinals. Each of the group winners meets the runner-up in the other group in the semifinals. The winners of each semifinal meet in the championship match.
