Sandy MacIver withdraws from England squad for Brazil and Australia matches

Sandy MacIver has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of their meeting with Brazil at Wembley Stadium.

Sarina Wiegman’s European champions take on their South American counterparts in the first women’s Finalissima on Thursday night.

Manchester City goalkeeper MacIver was initially included in a 25-player squad for the game as well as Tuesday’s friendly with Australia.

However, injury means the 24-year-old will now miss both matches.

No replacement will be called up with No 1 Mary Earps, City team-mate Ellie Roebuck and Aston Villa’s Hannah Hampton the remaining keepers in the group.

A Football Association statement on Wednesday read: “Sandy MacIver has withdrawn from the England senior women’s squad with an injury.

“The Manchester City goalkeeper will miss tomorrow’s Finalissima against Brazil and the forthcoming international fixture with Australia.

“No player will be called up and the 24-player squad will leave St. George’s Park to travel to London later today.”

MacIver made her senior international debut in February 2021 against Northern Ireland, her sole cap to date.
