Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams drop ‘Snacks 2.0’: Same friendship, more insight, no hugs

Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams don’t need to speak out loud to tell each other something. They can say it across the room with a glance, things like, “I want to leave this party.” In an exclusive call with The Athletic to preview the new season of their podcast, “Snacks,” the two former teammates easily handed off answering questions, jumping in on each other’s answers, and elaborating while talking over one another. 

“Sam sent me a DM the other day,” Williams started. 

Mewis picked up the thread, “It was like, friends that don’t hug are proven to have better friendships because they, like, never cross boundaries with each other. And me and Lynn have literally hugged like twice in our lives. … It was very poignant.”

“When she put that up, I was like, yeah, this is perfect,” Williams said. “This is literally us. I love you so much. I don’t need to hug you every time I see you. Just like, don’t touch me.”

That’s the Mewis and Williams that “Snacks” listeners have come to enjoy so deeply, returning for more of their easy friendship while drawing in their guests, like when they gifted the women’s soccer community an entire meme with Mewis and sister Kristie’s story about “having an okay time” at the Olympics.
