When Breanna Stewart announced her decision Wednesday to sign with the New York Liberty in free agency, she created quite a stir on social media.

NBA star Kevin Durant, whose Brooklyn Nets share Barclays Center with the WNBA’s Liberty, had lobbied to bring Stewart to New York. So when she revealed her choice, he celebrated accordingly.

“Aye, don’t call my phone lookin for tickets this summer, they gone,” he tweeted. “Let’s get it.”

Durant had reached out Stewart during her free agency negotiations to tell her he wanted to see her bring championship basketball back to New York, he said on Boardroom’s “The ETCs with Kevin Durant.”

“I hit Stewie the other day, and I never do this,” Durant said.” “And I was like, ‘Yo, it would be an incredible dynasty in New York City if you came here.’ I don’t think she’s seen it yet, but they cooking up.”

Also joining in on the party were Liberty player Sabrina Ionescu and Stefanie Dolson. The franchise’s first-round picks in the 2020 and 2014 drafts, respectively, welcomed their new teammate with open arms.
