A Russian tennis player scheduled to compete at a WTA tournament in Prague next week was met by the Czech police at the Prague airport and ordered to return home. Reportedly, the Prague Open organizers then proceeded to advise other Russian and Belarusian players scheduled to compete at the tournament that not traveling to the Czech Republic would probably be in their interest.
This year, Russian and Belarusian players have been free to sign up to play wherever they wanted. With that being said, Russian and Belarusian players had no problems signing up for the Prague Open – but the issue is that tournaments do not dictate what the authorities will do once Russian and Belarusian players land in the country.
