Rookie Sierra Enge savors opportunity to play for hometown San Diego Wave – Equalizer Soccer

Before trading $100,000 to move up the 2023 NWSL Collegiate Draft board, the San Diego Wave had already identified its top target in Stanford graduate Sierra Enge. Wave coach Casey Stoney talked about the young midfielder adding squad depth, quality and character.

Enge, who was selected 13th overall, has definitely risen to the challenge this year earning 10 starts so far. The Equalizer spoke to the midfielder about her transition into the NWSL and what it means to be playing professionally in the city where she grew up. 

“My rookie year has kind of exceeded my expectations in terms of the opportunities that I would get on the field,” Enge said of the season thus far. “I’m learning and growing a lot as a player, as a person. I’m just super grateful for the environment that I’m in because I think that the Wave has done a really good job of encouraging me and supporting me and then also trying to build a really cohesive team that can fight for a championship.”
