Robert Cohen has been part of the greater Denver community for more than 30 years. He was there when the Colorado Xplosion became the city’s first women’s pro team as part of the popular but short-lived American Basketball League of the late 1990s. As founder of the Denver Sports Commission, he was in attendance for the famous Snow Clasico soccer game between the U.S. men’s national team and Costa Rica in 2013.
Now, he is writing his next chapter by bring the National Women’s Soccer League to the Mile High City with a 2026 expansion team.
“My ‘why’ is pretty simple and maybe a little different than what you’ve heard from other owners,” Cohen told The Equalizer ahead of Thursday’s official announcement of Denver as the league’s 16th club.
