Los Angeles’ Riviera Country Club will be the site of the 2031 U.S. Open, the USGA announced Wednesday. Here’s what you need to know:
- This will mark the second U.S. Open held at the club and the first since 1948.
- The announcement comes days after Wyndham Clark won the 2023 U.S. Open at the nearby Los Angeles Country Club’s North Course.
- Riviera is also set to host the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open and men’s and women’s golf competitions for the 2028 Olympic Games.

Why Riviera?
Any list of the best golf courses in America should include Riviera, and it’s annually one of the most popular stops on the PGA Tour due to its terrific design, great fields and location in the calendar as part of the West Coast swing in January/February, when most of the country is buried underneath snow and prime-time golf is a respite from those frozen feelings.
While the club has hosted other USGA events through the years (and will host the U.S. Women’s Open in 2026) this feels like a long time coming to again host a men’s Open at the venue. — Kellenberger
