Date:

Serena Williams' former coach Rick Macci remembered Serena first trainings whe she was-year-old, in 1991.

Rick Macci, first coach of Venus and Serena Williams, recently looked back on when he coached Serena, when the US legend was only ten years old. Practices took place in the early hours of the morning, with no lights illuminating the dark court.

As reported by Sportskeeda, Macci recalled how Williams' father, Richard Williams, shone a flashlight in her daughter's eyes as she struck.

Macci coached the Williams sisters from 1991 to 1994. In 1995, Richard Williams took over coaching duties entirely, ceasing to send his daughters to the academy. Macci was instrumental in helping the Williams sisters hone their skills.

Rick is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Master Professional and a seven-time USPTA National Coach of the Year. Rick Macci was inducted into the USPTA Hall of Fame in October 2017, becoming the 19th professional and youngest person to receive the honor.
