As Renee Slegers took her seat in the media room at the Sobha Realty Training Centre, one central theme dominated the press conference.
“Have you been given any indication whether you’ll still be in interim charge after the (international) break.”

Slegers deflected the questions with ease, insisting her focus was solely on helping the team in the present. Slegers is far from a novice looking for her first break in football management. After a major knee injury suffered in 2016 prematurely ended her playing career, she took up coaching in the Damallsvenskan, the top Swedish League. During her time at Rosengard, she worked with Jonas Eidevall and, just like at Arsenal, took up the mantle when Eidevall departed for North London.
