Emma Raducanu is looking rejuvenated at the Miami Open and she has a pretty good idea of why that has been the case.
On Sunday, the 2021 US Open champion opened a very dominant 6-1 3-0 lead over McCartney Kessler before the American decided to retire the match after just 42 minutes of play due to a lower back issue. Before overcoming the Kessler challenge, the Briton also dominated Sayaka Ishii 6-2 6-1 and edged No. 8 seed Emma Navarro 7-6 (6) 2-6 7-6 (3).
Going into today’s clash against Amanda Anisimova, Raducanu is riding a three-match winning streak. But just before launching her Miami campaign, the 22-year-old had lost six of her past seven matches. Reflecting on her promising run in South Beach, she highlighted the major improvement in her game.
“I think my movement is pretty good right now. I think I’m defending better. I think I’m returning really well. I’m pretty happy with most areas of my game. It’s just something that I’m looking to trying to keep improving,” the world No. 60 explained.
Raducanu is also feeling a lot more relaxed
Not only does the former world No. 10 feel better about her game, but she also feels more relaxed – which has also contributed big time to her nice run.
