Reilly Opelka is one of the most loved tennis players among US fans and, in recent days, his father George has expressed his opinion on world number 1 and 24-time Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Opelka senior wrote on X how the Serbian champion’s legacy cannot be measured with a popularity value, as former Serena Williams’ coach Rennae Stubbs had recently highlighted.
George Opelka wrote: “Novak is just wired different. His legacy is still being written and it extends beyond popularity contests, record books and his trophy case. If the media wants to focus on popularity contests, be sure to check in with the locker room too.”
Stubbs, previously, however, said: “I think Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal definitely personified wanting to win a lot but it’s obsessive to Novak and you can see it.
He wants to put the numbers up because he knows he’s not gonna be as popular worldwide as Roger and Rafa.”
