SAKHIR, Bahrain — Christian Horner got a chance to focus entirely on racing for a couple of hours on Saturday night after weeks of intrigue, scrutiny and what he described as “unwanted attention.”
His Red Bull team made a perfect start to the new Formula One season in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Max Verstappen picked up where he left off in 2023, leading every lap from pole en route to victory ahead of teammate Sergio Pérez and scoring the fastest lap bonus. A maximum points haul for Horner’s reigning champion.
Yet at Horner’s regular post-race media session, the crowd of journalists was three times the normal size – making it “a quiet one,” as Horner deadpanned while taking a seat. The spotlight shows zero sign of shifting from the team principal’s off-track situation.
It was the first time Horner spoke publicly since alleged text messages between him and a female employee were anonymously shared midway through second practice in Bahrain on Thursday night, recipients including every team principal and more than 100 journalists.
