Real Madrid appoint Pau Quesada as women’s head coach

Real Madrid Feminino have appointed Pau Quesada as their new head coach on a two-year contract.

Quesada, 32, joins Madrid from Torino, where he had been a member of the men’s first team coaching staff since the summer of 2024.

He previously worked at Madrid as a coach in the club’s youth set-up between 2021 and 2023. The appointment marks his first coaching role in the women’s game.

Quesada replaces Alberto Toril at Madrid, after the club announced at the end of May that his time in charge had come to an end.

Toril, 51, led Madrid to three successive second-place finishes in Liga F and Champions League qualification in each of his four seasons in charge.

Madrid reached the Champions League quarter-finals in 2022 and 2025 under Toril and beat Barcelona, the dominant force in Spanish women’s football, for the first time in March. However, they still finished eight points behind Barca in Liga F.

Madrid captain Olga Carmona announced she would be departing at the end of the season, and The Athletic reported she is set to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Quesada’s Torino exit comes after the club parted ways with head coach Paolo Vanoli in June, with Marco Baroni appointed his replacement.
