Raul Asencio is set to renew his Real Madrid contract through to 2029.
The 22-year-old defender’s existing deal was set to expire in 2026 but Madrid have triggered a pre-agreed contract option to extend his terms — a condition that is common among Madrid academy players.
A release clause of €100million (£83.7m, $107.9m) is set to be included in the new deal, double the €50m figure in his previous contract.
More talks are expected in the future to improve the conditions of his contract.
Asencio has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Madrid after long-term injuries to Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal, making 29 first-team appearances since his debut in November.
He received his first Spain call-up this month but did not feature in either leg of his side’s Nations League quarter-final victory over the Netherlands.
Asencio’s new contract comes amid an ongoing investigation into an allegation he shared a sex tape of a minor.
On February 11, The Athletic reported that Asencio is still under investigation — along with three other former Madrid youth players — for allegedly sharing a sex tape involving two women that was recorded in Gran Canaria in the summer of 2023 after a Spanish court rejected an appeal to have him acquitted of the case.
