A few days have passed since the shocking announcement with which Rafael Nadal shared another skip of a tennis tournament. The Spanish champion is not still ready to take to the court, due to the physical problem that occurred in the quarter-finals of the Brisbane Interational.
After playing The Netflix Slam exhibition in Las Vegas – just when everyone was waiting to see him compete in an official tournament – Rafa announced his withdrawal from the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.
But Nadal did not give up, despite yet another blow to the final part of his legendary career. The Spanish champion has already resumed training, ahead of Indian Wells, on his beloved clay courts. A very clear clue also as to why Rafa decided to skip the first ATP Masters 1000 of the season.
Nadal’s real goal is to compete at the highest level (perhaps for the last time) in clay swing, giving himself one last chance to win the Roland Garros (and the Paris Olympic Games).
Through an Instagram story, the Spanish legend posted a photo in which he clearly made it clear that he was back training on clay-courts.
“Clay… Tierra…,” wrote Nadal.
