In their fourth season in the National Women’s Soccer League, Racing Louisville FC once again ended up in a familiar territory: ninth place and on the outside of the playoffs.

Since their inception in 2021, Racing has finished in ninth place for the past four consecutive seasons with a range that concludes 22-25 points. Although the 28 points collected this season (in four more games than last year) is a new high for Racing, they once again fell short of the postseason — even with the expansion of the playoffs to eight teams.

Racing’s playoff hopes were derailed before they played on Sunday. The Portland Thorns’ 3-0 win on Friday, combined with Bay FC securing a gritty 3-2 win against the Houston Dash on Saturday, left Louisville out of contention. Racing gained an unexpected home field advantage due to unplayable field conditions in San Diego, but it was all for naught.
