Racing Louisville FC sends Emily Fox to North Carolina Courage in 3-player trade: Sources

Defender Emily Fox will head to the North Carolina Courage as part of a trade with Racing Louisville FC, in exchange for defenders Abby Erceg and Carson Pickett, according to sources not authorized to speak publicly on the trade. The swap is expected to be announced on Monday afternoon. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Fox, the first pick of the 2021 draft, has been with Racing Louisville since their first match as an expansion team. While she primarily plays as a left back, she can shift to center or play on the right as well.
  • The Courage will add Fox to their backline, a like-for-like replacement for Carson Pickett. But the Courage are in the middle of a roster rebuild, and Erceg’s departure, along with the recent trade with Angel City FC involving the team’s right back Merritt Mathias, means a new-look defense for the Courage in 2023.

Racing Louisville’s offseason moves

Louisville has announced a couple of key contract extensions this offseason, primarily those of defensive midfielder Jaelin Howell and goalkeeper Katie Lund. They also picked up forward Paige Monaghan as part of a trade with Gotham FC.
