The 2024 PWHL Draft will be held in June, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
The PWHL’s second annual draft will be seven rounds with 42 selections for the league’s six teams compared to last year when the draft was 15 rounds with 90 players selected.
According to a league news release, “all players interested in competing in the 2024-25 PWHL season must declare for the draft to be eligible for selection and subsequent free agency.”
The declaration window will be open from March 1 to May 8, which will give players time to make their decision after the conclusion of their respective seasons, like the NCAA championships and the IIHF women’s world championship in April.
“The draft is the primary gateway to the PWHL and number one source of new talent,” Jayna Hefford the PWHL’s senior vice president of hockey operations said. “The majority of the league’s founding players were selected in the inaugural PWHL Draft, and we anticipate the level of play will continue to be raised across the league as teams make their picks in June.”
