As everyday runners approach the tapering stage in their marathon training plans, the line up for the London Marathon 2023 elite race are also readying themselves for the start line. But last minute withdrawals due to injury may mean one of your favourite athletes is missing from this year’s incredible elite women’s line up.
Sadly, British duo Charlotte Purdue and Jess Piasecki, as well as 2022 Berlin Marathon winner Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia, have all been forced to pull out of this year’s race.
Why did Charlotte Purdue have to withdraw from the London Marathon 2023?
Purdue, who also had to pull out of last year’s London Marathon, told followers in an Instagram story that she’d had to withdraw due to ‘a few set backs this build up and missing a few key weeks of training earlier in the year’. She reassured fans that she was back to her training schedule now, and that she intended on returning to the iconic race next year. London Marathon organisers also cited pubic bone stress issues.
Why did Jess Piasecki have to withdraw?
