Entering parenthood is a major adjustment for many; however, that does not mean goals have to go on the back burner. While every parent’s journey is different, many feel a sense of loss of who they once were as they enter a new chapter of caretaking.
According to a 2021 study, children whose parents were physically active were fifty-nine percent more likely to be active themselves. Additionally, the benefit of setting a goal and regular physical exercise are both shown to alleviate stress, which is also tied to being a new parent.
Returning to a sport that was once loved or setting new big goals for oneself can be an amazing step to rebuilding identity and growing stronger as a parent. While juggling training, recovery, parenting, and other life obligations are not easy, the lasting benefits of pushing and achieving goals is far worth the effort.
