On Saturday, Polish immigration authorities deported Russian Vera Zvonareva from the country. The 38-year-old, who was once ranked as high as no. 2 in the world, was set to play the BNP Paribas Warsaw Open that’s set to start from 24th July.According to the country’s governmental authorities, as reported by the BBC, Zvonareva has been put on an “undesirables” list by them.
Zvonareva had been travelling to the Polish capital on a France-issued visa. She’d been made to wait for some time at the airport after she travelled there from the Serbian capital, Belgrade before the decision to deport her came about.
Following her deportation, Zvonareva had to travel to Montenegro’s capital, Podgorica.The Polish governmental statement, as translated by BBC, said, “Vera Zvonareva, using a visa issued by France, tried to get into our country on a flight from Belgrade to Warsaw.
After arriving from Serbia, the tennis player stayed in the transit zone of Warsaw Chopin Airport and today, after 12:00, she flew to Podgorica (Montenegro)”.
