Saturday’s semifinals at the season-ending championships in Cancun were heavily affected by wind and rain. Jessica Pegula handled the bad weather better than her opponent Coco Gauff and progressed into the final, while the match between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek was suspended. Despite very unfavorable conditions, the world No.5 Pegula reached the title match with a perfect 4-0 record in Cancun.
Pegula’s semifinal against Gauff was about an hour late because of showers. The second set had two rain delays — during one of them, the heavy wind inverted the umbrella covering Gauff’s changeover chair.

In the end, it was Pegula who handled the harsh conditions much better and defeated the reigning US Open champion 6-2 6-1.
The semifinal between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek was suspended just three games into the match.
As Swiatek was leading 2-1 and Sabalenka was serving at 30-all, the rain halted play.
