Among the important absentees at the Paris Olympics is also the Spanish Paula Badosa, former number 2 in the WTA ranking and struggling with physical problems for months now. Paula is not in Paris but will participate in the Citi DC Open in Washington.
Speaking to the media, the Spanish player – who in the meantime has qualified for the 2nd round of the tournament after beating Sofia Kenin in three sets – explained why she preferred to play Washington over Paris, revealing that it wasn’t worth playing the Olympic tournament.

“In the last two tournaments that I played on grass I felt good sensations and I have to say that I felt good. In the last one it was a shame because I was very close and I showed a great level, I am confident in view of the season on hard courts, I love this phase,” she said.
Paula commented on the decision to participate in Washington and not the Olympics and she clarified: “My back is responding well, if I continue to change surfaces I risk having problems and it’s not worth it for me, especially given the situation at the…
