Paolini dominates Andreeva to reach maiden Roland Garros final

Date:

Twelfth seed Jasmine Paolini, who is set to enter the Top 10 for the first time, reached her first Grand Slam final with a 6-3 6-1 victory over Mirra Andreeva at Roland Garros.

Paolini secured a crucial break to lead 3-1, capitalizing on her lone break point of the set. Despite Andreeva later having five chances to break back, including at 4-1 down, the unseeded player failed to convert any, ultimately conceding the set 6-3.

In 19 minutes, Paolini established a 4-1 lead in the second set, as we started seeing tears in Andreeva’s eyes. The Russian’s despair continued as Paolini saved a break point and extended the lead to 5-1. The Italian closed the match with a love break, firing a winner on match point.

Paolini’s opponent in the title match will be the clear favorite, top seed Iga Swiatek, who is riding a 20-match winning streak at Roland Garros and is aiming for her fourth title at the Paris Grand Slam. Swiatek secured her spot in the final by defeating third seed Coco Gauff in straight sets earlier on Thursday.
