Palm cooling: the easiest hack for running faster and longer

Obviously, we all know that working hard at things like training plans, intervals and strength training are the key to running faster and longer. But, we love to bring you the little hacks we hear about that could help us out along the way, and the research on this one is pretty exciting. Enter: palm cooling.

What is palm cooling?

It’s basically exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a technique where you cool your palms during strenuous activity. In the latest research studying the practice, they used a special cooling glove, but there is evidence to suggest it can be also effective using ice or even just cool water.

What are the benefits of palm cooling?

Palm cooling reduces fatigue and increases your exercise output. And it can be by a lot! A peer-reviewed study from Stanford University recently researched the technique, and published their findings in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning. Initially, they focused on strength training. The participants recorded a 40% increase in bench press work volume in three weeks, and a 144% increase in pull-up volume over six weeks when using palm cooling strategies.
