Ostapenko wins Adelaide, secures return to Top 10

Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko clinched her seventh career title with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Daria Kasatkina in the Adelaide International final.

With wins over Sorana Cirstea, Caroline Garcia, Marta Kostyuk and Ekaterina Alexandrova, Ostapenko reached the Adelaide final, her first on hard courts since Seoul 2022. Kasatkina, on the other hand, played just two matches en route to the final — with her quarterfinal opponent Laura Siegemund withdrawing due to a left leg injury, and her semifinal opponent Jessica Pegula forced to bow out owing to a gastrointestinal illness.

The world No.15 Kasatkina promptly recovered from a break down early in the first set. However, Ostapenko, donned in a unique DK ONE dress with a tuxedo effect, coupled with Wilson shoes, quickly seized control again, securing the opener with a comfortable lead.

The second set mirrored Ostapenko’s dominance, with the sixth seed storming to a 2-0 lead and extending it to an impressive 4-1 advantage. Despite Kasatkina’s valiant effort to stage a comeback by securing one break, Ostapenko once again broke Kasatkina’s serve, extinguishing any hopes of a turnaround. The world No.12 confidently served out the set, sealing the victory and claiming her first title of the season in emphatic fashion.
