Jelena Ostapenko clinched her second WTA title this season and eighth in her career with a confident 6-2 6-3 victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova in the final of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz.
In a match between two former Linz runner-ups, Ostapenko leveled her head-to-head record against Alexandrova to 5-5. The Latvian defeated the Russian player for the second time this season, having also ousted her en route to the Adelaide International title last month.
Not only has Ostapenko already secured two singles titles in 2024, she also won this year’s Brisbane International doubles title with Lyudmyla Kichenok and reached the Australian Open doubles final with the same partner.
After a first-round bye this week in Linz, the top-seeded Ostapenko saved a match point against Danish qualifier Clara Tauson in the second round. However, the subsequent three matches against Jodie Anna Burrage, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and Ekaterina Alexandrova proved to be less challenging, as the world No.12 never lost more than three games in any set.
Ostapenko’s win-loss record in 2024 now stands at an impressive 13-2. Her winning equipment in Linz included a DK ONE outfit, Wilson Rush Pro 4.0 tennis shoes and a Wilson Blade 98 16×19 v9.
