The New York Liberty won their first WNBA championship on Sunday, getting past the Minnesota Lynx in overtime of a winner-take-all Game 5 to wrap up the 2024 WNBA season. New York entered the season as the only original WNBA franchise without a championship, losing its previous five appearances in the finals. Stars Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu struggled for most of the evening, but Jonquel Jones, Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally stepped up for New York. Jones was named the Finals MVP after averaging 17.8 points per game, finishing with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds on Sunday. New York averaged the second-best attendance in the league (12,730) this season, which came just two years after ranking eighth.
