Ons Jabeur says she felt “honored” after Iga Swiatek named her one of the two best clay-court players. Last year, 28-year-old Jabeur lifted her first WTA 1000 title in Madrid before finishing as runner-up to Swiatek in the Rome final.
This year, Jabeur won Charleston before sustaining an unfortunate calf injury during her Stuttgart semifinal match against Swiatek. In April, Swiatek said she considered herself and Jabeur to be the two top players on clay.
“I think I am actually (one of the best on clay). Iga is really amazing and I’m honoured that she said that. The main key is that you adapt to clay, to grass, to hard courts; it’s very difficult to find a complete player.
I love clay, I love playing on clay; it’s probably the only surface that I don’t need matches under my belt to play good, and I showed that in Charleston,” Jabeur told the French Open website.
