Ons Jabeur makes deeply honest confession at US Open

Ons Jabeur admits she simply didn’t feel mentally ready to play in Montreal and also confessed she is still “hurt” by the Wimbledon final loss. Jabeur, ranked at No 5 in the world, suffered a devastating loss in this year’s Wimbledon final after Marketa Vondrousova beat her 6-4 6-4.

Jabeur, 28, was playing in her third Grand Slam final in the last 12 months. Following the Wimbledon final loss to Vondrousova, Jabeur’s record in Grand Slam finals fell to 0-3. After Wimbledon, Jabeur skipped Montreal and returned to action last week in Cincinnati where she was beaten by Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinal.

Now, Jabeur is set to compete at the US Open, where she was beaten by Iga Swiatek in the final last year.

Jabeur admits she is still hurt by the Wimbledon final loss

“100%. I honestly wasn’t ready to play Montreal. I wasn’t ready to come back soon on tour because I felt like I needed time for myself.

They say time heals. I’m still waiting a bit. The Wimbledon loss still hurts (smiling). It’s much better than a month ago, for sure. Yeah, just I think I’m 28 years old now, I’ve learned from the mistakes of playing, playing, playing tournaments all the time.
