Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur admits she is not able to fully enjoy the food in Charleston due to Ramadan, one of the holiest months for Muslims. During Ramadan, Muslims practicing fasting have a meal before dawn. During the fast, Muslims are not allowed to eat or drink anything.
After sunset, Muslims break their fast. This year, Ramadan started on March 23rd and will be ending on April 21st. Ramadan falls on a different date every year as in 2024 Ramadan will start around March 12-13. After a first-round bye, Jabeur is set to face Lesia Tsurenko in the Charleston second round.
“Ramadan happens to be the same time as Charleston. Hopefully in a few years, when Ramadan changes from the date of Charleston, I will be able to enjoy it more,” Jabeur said, per Tennis Atlantic.
