Ons Jabeur admits she is already feeling stressed about her Madrid Open title defense but noted she will definitely be bringing a smile to Caja Magica. Jabeur, 28, lifted her first WTA 1000 title after beating Jessica Pegula in the 2022 Madrid final.
This year’s Madrid Open edition is taking place between April 25 – May 07. “Oh, wow I feel stressed already, but my plan is to take it one match at a time. It’s such an honor for me to start as a defending champion. I can’t wait to be there and play more tennis,” Jabeur told the Madrid Open website.
Jabeur, who made two Grand Slam finals last year and reached a career-high ranking of No 2 in the world, is one of the most likable players in the game as the Tunisian is always smiling and cracking jokes. Even after becoming one of the top players in the game, Jabeur remained very humble.
“That’s all that matters to me. Being arrogant won’t get me anywhere. People come to watch me, support me. The least I can do is smile for them. It’s important to remember that we’re all human and the same.
