Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur is out of the Paris Olympics after consulting with her team and realizing that quickly changing surfaces wouldn’t be the best thing for her troublesome knee.
Jabeur, ranked at No. 10 in the world, was the first player from Tunis to make a Grand Slam final and reach the top-10. With that being said, there is no doubt that she would have been one of the top Tunisian athletes at this year’s Olympics.
But Jabeur – who had minor knee surgery in early 2023 – has been bothered by a knee issue for quite some time and earlier this year she was forced to miss some action over her persistent knee injury.
This week, Jabeur is playing her second tournament of the grass season at a WTA 500 tournament in Berlin. And just before her Berlin opener, Jabeur announced that after the grass season, she won’t go back to clay and play on the clay courts of Roland Garros when the Paris Olympics start.
In the last few days, Aryna Sabalenka and Emma Raducanu also withdrew from the Paris Olympics.
