Aryna Sabalenka is inching closer toward Iga Swiatek on the WTA rankings list as the Belarusian will have a chance to overtake the Pole at the world No 1 spot at the French Open. This Monday, Swiatek’s lead over Sabalenka further decreased as the Pole now has 8940 points, while the Belarusian has 7541.
Last year, Swiatek won the French Open and collected 2000 points. On the other side, Sabalenka suffered a French Open third-round exit and she won’t really have many points to defend at Roland Garros this year. If Swiatek loses before the French Open semifinal, she will lose the top spot to Sabalenka no matter how well the Belarusian does at Roland Garros.
Sabalenka will enter Roland Garros ahead of Swiatek in the Live Rankings. Iga still depends on herself to stay on top (if she defends her title), but barely.
If Swiatek loses before SFs, Sabalenka new #1 no matter what she does.
