Given how active the WNBA players have been in American politics — especially since the 2020 bubble season when the players in the league publicly backed Georgia senator Raphael Warnock while he was running against Atlanta Dream co-owner Kelly Loeffler — it is no surprise that they are planning to be involved in the 2024 presidential race.
Today, two WNBA players who will star for the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics said that they plan to put their support behind Kamala Harris’ run for president.
“We have been talking in the group chat, especially with the social justice committee, about finding a way to make sure that we can obviously back Kamala as much as we can,” forward Breanna Stewart said.
“Because everything that we have been kind of working for this year, as far as the Commissioner’s Cup has been about voting rights, reproductive rights. The things that she stands for, we also stand for. So making sure that we can definitely stay united and continue to push the message of registering to vote, knowing where to vote.”
