Faith Kipyegon hasn’t yet found a running feat she can’t accomplish.
Now, the Kenyan Olympic legend is setting her sights on the greatest possible moment in the history of women’s distance running.
Kipyegon wants to run a mile in under four minutes.
“I’m a three-time Olympic champion. I’ve achieved world championship titles. I thought: What else? Why not dream outside the box?” Kipyegon said in a statement.
Kipyegon is the world record holder in the women’s mile.
But that time, 4:07.64, is clearly a ways off from sub-4:00.

The 31-year old is setting a gargantuan goal. According to ESPN, it’s taken 30 years for women’s runners to drop eight seconds on the mile world record to its current point.
Kipyegon is targeting June 26 at Stade Carhlety in Paris, where she has run her previous fastest 1500- and 5000-meter times.
The attempt in June won’t actually meet official track standards because of the specificity of the pursuit as opposed to it happening in natural competition.
For Kipyegon, though, it’s not the point whether or not a lower time goes into the record books.
It’s about the achievement, the chance to do something no women has ever done.
