Eight teams are still standing entering the Women’s College World Series, but one has been in a class of its own this season. Oklahoma has lost just one game this season and is taking a record winning streak to Oklahoma City with a championship the Sooners’ last remaining goal.
Oklahoma nearly had to share the record for the longest winning streak in the history of Division I softball. The Sooners were one strike away from a loss to Clemson in the super regionals, but Kinzie Hansen blasted a three-run home run to extend the game. Oklahoma would later finish off the win in extra innings.
While a loss wouldn’t have knocked the Sooners out right in that moment, it would’ve prevented the team from having its own place in history. The game still marked a surprise departure from the sheer excellence that has defined Oklahoma’s season.
