Officially Angel City’s head coach, Becki Tweed has earned the trust of players and the club

It has been a transformative 12 months for Angel City’s new permanent head coach Becki Tweed. In one season, she has elevated from assistant coach to interim head coach, and now, after steering Angel City to the NWSL playoffs for the first time, she has been awarded the role permanently.

“If you would have asked me this time last year whether I was ready to be a head coach, I would have said, ‘Absolutely not,’” Tweed told The Athletic prior to the announcement. “But I think the last year of my life has been an incredible learning experience for me as a coach, and it’s been an absolute honor to be the head coach of this team for the past six months.”

Tweed arrived in Los Angeles last October after three years with NJ/NY Gotham, joining Freya Coombe’s staff as an assistant coach. She had relative success in her assistant role on the East Coast and for the USWNT U-20 side, helping Gotham to a playoff appearance and Challenge Cup final run in 2021. A year later, Tweed has gone from promising assistant to competitive head coach, righting the ship in LA.
