The 2023 Women’s World Cup is proving to be a spectacle unlike any other as the tournament nears the knockout rounds in Australia and New Zealand.
With the field expanded to 32 teams for the first time in its history, the tournament should have more global appeal than ever before. Now, with just 16 teams remaining at the start of the knockout stage, half the field has been eliminated and only the upper echelon of global powers remain.
This FIFA showcase is considered the most wide open championship in women’s history with several countries deemed capable of going all the way. The USA and a host of European nations are the favourites, with Japan and hosts Australia also in the mix.
USA-based sportsbook BetMGM claimed that they expected this to be “the most bet on Women’s World Cup of all time”, and that is likely to be true globally, too.
